This pathway is designed to enable clinicians and researchers to
- deliver the KOOS PROM tool to their patients quickly and easily,
- provide patients with contextual information about the tool,
- automatically remind patients to submit the KOOS PROM,
- collect the results of the submitted KOOS PROM,
- calculate the KOOS PROM Score based on the answers submitted,
- allocate KOOS PROM Cut Points based on the score calculations,
- display survey results, Score and Cut Points, and
- provide an export of deidentified KOOS PROM data for research purposes.
Patients with knee injury and osteoarthritis, ranging from young, active individuals to elderly patients.
The KOOS is a self-administered questionnaire typically completed by patients in clinical settings or at home, taking about 10 minutes to fill out without assistance.
- Knee injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS)
The KOOS is a 42-item self-administered questionnaire assessing five knee-specific outcomes: pain, symptoms, activities of daily living, sport/recreation function, and knee-related quality of life.
Evaluative – assesses short-term and long-term consequences of knee injury and treatment outcomes.
More responsive than WOMAC for younger/active patients; includes sport/recreation and quality of life subscales; valid for various knee conditions and interventions.
May not be as relevant for elderly patients with limited activity levels.
Validated for ACL reconstruction, meniscectomy, total knee replacement, and other knee interventions.
Test-retest reliability: ICCs > 0.75 for all subscales.
Validated in populations aged 16-84 with various knee conditions.
The KOOS (Knee injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score) uses a standardised scoring system across its five subscales:
- Pain (9 items)
- Symptoms (7 items)
- Function in daily living (ADL) (17 items)
- Function in Sport and Recreation (Sport/Rec) (5 items)
- Knee-related Quality of Life (QOL) (4 items)
An aggregate score is not calculated, as it is considered desirable to analyze and interpret the five dimensions separately
